Education Award Ceremony Scholarship

The Laotian American Society (LAS) is pleased to announce our annual scholarship program to rising and current Laotian college students in Georgia. The scholarship is accumulated annually from fundraising and sponsorships throughout the year toward our Education Awards Ceremony. Applicants will be considered based on:

  • Academic Achievements
  • Community Service
  • Essays
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Financial Need

Scholarship application deadline is July 28, 2023.

Should you be selected for an award. awards will only be awarded for physically attending the ceremony.

High School Information
College/University Information
Answer the following questions. Your answer must be typed and in double-spaced format. Each essay should be no more than two (2) pages long.

1) Our Lao culture holds many influences, and connects us through our family and loved ones. The familiarity of our music, food, and language is forever instilled within each of us thanks to our elders. Please share with us how a part of our rich heritage and culture gives you a sense of comfort and nostalgia, and what importance it hold for you and how does that define who you are today. Also how will you apprise to share that with others in your life in the future. (i.e. Do you find comfort in the nights you have a home cooked Lao dinner, or do you find yourself listen to traditional or modern Lao music to connect to the culture?)

2)Community involvement helps develop a person socially, intellectually and culturally. What differences have you made in your community in regards to all three aspects? (The community you refer to can be any specific community. i.e. cultural, religious, school, etc.)

3) Growing up, everyone brings with them life lessons taught by their family growing up that is unique to others. As you progress in life, whether it be through your education or work, what valuable life lessons have you learned from your childhood that helps you persevere today?

I understand that I must inform the LAS Scholarship Committee of any changes in address, enrollment, or financial circumstances.

I understand that if the LAS have questions in regards to my application or essay, they reserve the right to contact myself.

This information is to be used solely for the purpose of determining my eligibility for the LAS Scholarship. I agree to allow LAS to share the information I have provided with any other student aid funding source for which I may be eligible.

I authorize LAS to use my name for the purposes of community relations and program evaluation.

I give permission to LAS to use photographs or video footage of my participation in LAS Scholarship activities and related functions in educational and promotional materials benefiting various LAS Programs.

I understand that if I receive funds as a LAS Scholarship recipient, I will serve ten documented community service hours with the LAS or any other affiliated Laotian-based community organizations, completed by the end of the next calendar year.
